Moving Forward – An Update

The Session met last night and we want to update members on some exciting things that are moving forward at this time.

The first is about our Lift High the Cross Capital Campaign.  There are still a few significant contacts we will be making one-to-one, but we know that we are getting closer to our final amount for the campaign.  If you delayed making a pledge but would like to get it in, now would be a great time.  (If you need another pledge card or have questions, contact June at the church office.)

Thanks to the enthusiastic generosity and widespread support of the congregation, at this moment we have pledges totaling $2,176,333.  Some folks have compared this total to the total cost of the proposed project and have wondered how successful this campaign was.  The truth is that fundraisers who traditionally work with churches suggest that a successful capital campaign for a congregation is 1½ to 2½ times the giving for the annual budget.  By comparison, we already have received in pledges more than 3 times our congregational giving for our 2007 budget…  Yes, the campaign has been a great success!  We can truly rejoice in the commitment that our members have made toward this very important step in the life of Church of the Cross.

The second exciting news is about the building itself. The Building Implementation Committee  (BIC) recently appointed by the Session has been meeting this month and they gave their first report to Session last night.  They are making plans to proceed with the Maintenance Phase of the project, and to make modifications to the North Phase of the project (the addition to the West of Fellowship Hall) to bring the costs in line with the Capital Funds we anticipate receiving from this current campaign.  Session members were pleased and excited about the progress that has been made.

We don’t have final details yet, but hopefully this gives you a sense of the progress and forward movement that is taking place.  We will keep you informed as decisions become clear.
