Our Neighborhood

Omaha is a metropolitan city, enriched by a diverse number of ethnic cultures and a population of approximately 800,000.  Located near the geographical center of the U.S.A., Omaha affords its’ residents numerous cultural, recreational, educational and religious opportunities found no where else. Outstanding medical facilities and schools along with the genuine friendliness of the residents and the quality environment for raising children stand out in the minds of most when Omaha is mentioned.

The Omaha Symphony is a musical leader in our community that also supports an opera company, Opera Omaha. “Jazz on the Green” is a summer outdoor music festival featuring wonderful jazz exhibitions. Drama flourishes through the Omaha Community Playhouse and the Nebraska Shakespeare Festival which features outdoor performances of Shakespearean plays with acrobats, music and jugglers before each performance.

The Joslyn Art Museum features outstanding collections of 19th and 20th century American and European art and represents a center for the musical arts as well. The Durham Western Heritage Museum, housed in historic Union Station, exhibits artifacts and photographs depicting Omaha’s heritage. The recently relocated Strategic Air Command Museum showcases the aircraft of the Air Force and features interactive activities for all ages.

The nationally acclaimed Henry Doorly Zoo boasts an IMAX theatre, spectacular indoor jungle, indoor desert, beautiful aviary and outstanding aquarium. We have three state parks close by which rent cabins, permit camping and provide excellent opportunities for outdoor recreation. Other area attractions include Boys Town, the Heartland of America Park and the Old Market with numerous restaurants and unique shopping opportunities. Three large shopping malls are located nearby with many smaller shopping facilities available.

Omaha is the home of the College World Series, the Golden Spikes Baseball Team, and the Lancer Hockey Team; however, during the fall attention turns to the Cornhusker Football Team from the University of Nebraska. “Go Big Red” is the mantra of the season and Red is the most popular color!

Our exceptional public school system provides high quality education for all our children. Omaha is fast becoming a major technological center with the recent completion of the state of the art Peter Kiewit Institute of Information Science, Technology and Engineering located at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Outstanding medical facilities abound including ten general hospitals, two medical schools and several health agencies specializing in cancer treatment, liver and bone-marrow transplants and the treatment of many other illnesses. Opportunities for worship are abundant with many active churches including Methodist, Roman Catholic, Baptist, Lutheran, LDS (Mormon), Christian and Missionary Alliance, Christian Science, and Jewish congregations as well as several other Presbyterian Churches.
